Aariona Foundation was setup with an objective of foster care, health, education of girl child and the under privileged who are drop outs, empowering them to be self-relient and hand holding geriatrics through projects hither to unapproached by the government and other stakeholders. We work in the remotest of districts of hinterland odisha.
Aariona stands on the vertices of these five pillars spread over three districts in western and southern Odisha.
From an engrossed home maker and saddled into watching TV during leisure, I transformed myself sharing my skill to make rakhis from plant seeds. I must thank Aariona foundation leading the path. Today with the inspiration I teach 20 ladies of the neighbourhood, different home decor items and help each other engage fruitfully.
I have been a teacher and have been have concerned about social values and civic rights but learnt solid waste management, importance of biodegradable waste, bio medical waste, and the impact on our climate. This specific learning with the help of Aariona foundation has been taught to our students and every day I ensure 15 minutes of my class is spent on understand waste management keeping separate buckets, engaging with the municipality and creating value for the children in the future.
From an entrepreneur engrossed in self and my business I have learnt to derive pleasure with association of grooming children and helping them in brain games. Skilling is not necessarily part of the curriculum and plain textbook reading does not excite modern day children with Aariona foundation, I am now not only value adding children below 20 years but helping them learn few tricks in the last 3 years.
I have been a teacher from years now but teaching crafts and engaging children was always thought to be accepted domain. After Aariona foundation took me to defend on school, I started to understand the love and respect you get in engagement with children and taught them how to decorate dia and today few of them also have started teaching slum children to decorate dias during Diwali which is better than urban specialised craft.
I have always been an art teacher and have been teaching art to children below 10 years in the government school but with the help of Aariona foundation I have now made them learn them making paper bags and use it at home and circulate to neighbourhood. So, in the process almost 70% of our students go out and make paper bags for their own homes and their parent are too happy.
